Winter 2014 is a fairy tale inspired collection. I played with the concept of revisiting styles and retelling their stories in a new and more tactile environment.
The look is soft and feminine, occasionally contrasted by crisp, clean silhouettes. Fabrication was a huge inspiration behind this collection; I worked with the most amazing alpaca knits, wool blends, cotton velvet and raw silk. Playing with the fabric I sculpted jumpsuits, draped and cocooned capes and generally allowed the character of the fabric to dictate the silhouettes. A colour palette consisting of saturated berry and pomegranate tones is balanced by forest greens, sand and mocha. Black and dove grey are used as neutrals to bind the look. Subtle prints where included to emphasize the gypsy element carried though for the previous winter collection. There is a strong craft element with chunky, hand-knitted scarves, hoods and gloves. This is echoed by the embroidery and the texture rich fabric used though out the collection. My goal was to create fantastical princesses in a magical setting, to remove the guests, media, models and the buyers from this realm and to transport them to my imagination. This is what my world looks like... |
